June 2008

Even though the weather's warm, don't forget about your local yarn shop! New yarns are going to be coming in weekly all summer, please come by and check out the new stuff.

These new yarns are already in stock:

Saucon Sock, by Kraemer Yarns, an American manufacturer: a fingering yarn of 44% cotton/43% acrylic/13% nylon. There is no wool in this yarn.
Rockin Sox: Plymouth's new 25% bamboo blend. Only $9.95 for 100 grams of lovely colorways.
Ecco Cashmere: Plymouth's new lace-weight 100% cashmere.
Silky Alpaca Lace, by Classic Elite: 70% alpaca/30% silk.
Mulberry, by Louisa Harding: a DK-weight 100% silk which is plied to prevent pilling.
Sierra, by Tahki: a worsted-weight silk/linen blend. The popularity of this new yarn has prompted Tahki to introduce fall colors to this "spring" yarn.
Savannah: a sport-weight yarn by the Fibre Company (a Maine company). It is hand-dyed and incredibly soft because of merino, organic cotton and soya fiber.

We understand that there are events happening in Belfast every weekend from mid-June to August. Check for information on these events on the Calendar page of the Belfast Downtown Business Group Web site (the home page features a fun video on Co-motion, Belfast's interactive sidewalk art show). Also, the Calendar page of the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce site has listings for the first week of June. Please keep checking both sites for updates.
Here are two more customer-recommended free pattern sites, if you haven't found them already: Garn Studio/Drops Design, an international site with a wide variety of free patterns, and Headhuggers, which provides lots of stylish patterns for chemo caps.
Aarhus Gallery's First Anniversary Show will be on the walls June 1-29. The public is invited for an opening reception on June 6 from 5-8 pm, with crackers, cheese, refreshments and tasty treats. At the reception, the six core Aarhusians (Kevin Johnson, Mark Kelly, Annadeene Konesni, Richard Mann, Wesley Reddick and Willy Reddick) will wax poetic with selected works from the previous twelve months, and will tinker with new work in the spirit of the traditional and contemporary first-anniversary motif: paper and clocks. Aarhus Gallery, 50 Main St., Belfast, will resume summer hours with this show, and will be open daily 10 am-6 pm.
